Free Tax Preparation
About the Program
Each year, HSC Mon Valley partners with the United Way’s Free Tax Prep (FTP) Coalition to provide an FTP site. Individuals and families on a low-income or fixed budget may be eligible to have their federal, state, and local taxes done for FREE. Due to the nature of our program, our volunteer tax preparers pay special attention to Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit eligibility to make sure that individuals and families are able to get their maximum tax refund.
The FTP Program runs from mid-January to mid-April, with appointment scheduling typically starting the second week of January. To make an appointment, taxpayers should call 2-1-1 or 1-888-856-2773 after the second week of January.
HSC Mon Valley follows COVID-19 related safety precautions, which reflect the most up-to-date and available information provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Get Involved
All tax returns are prepared by IRS-certified volunteers who have been trained to prepare federal, state, and local returns. Our program could not be successful without our volunteer tax preparers. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer tax preparer, please call 412-437-8229 or email Stephanie at seson@hscmonvalley.org.
There are many people that need an extra helping hand. Some serve because they have to and some out of kindness and humility. I recently came across a group of individuals that were more than eager to lend that extra helping hand. The Human Services Center in Turtle Creek greeted me and empathized with me in one breath. They were efficient, kind, and helpful. They went the extra mile. They made me feel comfortable and secure. What a great group of people! So, whenever you think there aren’t caring, thoughtful people left in the world, visit the Turtle Creek Human Services Center. They will change your mind.
